One of the basic human needs is shelter, and after an emergency such as an earthquake, flood, tsunami, etc where people’s homes have been destroyed, that need becomes acute. This was an area in which The Shortbread Trust wanted to help, and we were therefore delighted to discover the work that Shelterbox do in this area.
Shelterbox is a UK based charity that provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters, at a time when they need it the most. This help is delivered via their Shelterbox Response Teams or SRT’s. All volunteers, these guys ensure the boxes containing the desperately needed essentials make it through to the areas most in need.
Operating since 2000 they are now firmly established at the forefront of disaster relief and their work constantly earns the respect of outside agencies. They have now worked on every continent, responding to earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, typhoons, hurricanes, volcanoes and conflicts, and have distributed over 125.000 boxes.
The Shortbread Trust is delighted to be able to assist Shelterbox in this critical work.
